Apple’s iOS 10.3.1 beta to come with new 'Theater Mode'

NEW DELHI: Tech giant Apple released the public version of the iOS 10.2 earlier this month. The firm is now rumoured to begin seeding the iOS 10.3.1 beta next month with a dedicated update for movie and TV serial lovers.

According to Apple tipster Sonny Dickson, the Cupertino-based firm will be releasing the iOS 10.3.1 beta on January 10. This version will include a 'Theatre' mode with a popcorn-shaped icon in the control centre.

The Theatre mode is rumoured to disable all sounds and alerts on an iOS-powered device while its user is inside a movie theatre. This includes blocking of incoming calls, notification alerts, and other app alerts. Users will however have to turn the feature on manually.

Interestingly, according to a patent granted to Apple in 2012, certain location settings on an iOS device could be triggered by GPS, depending on where the user is at that time.

Earlier this month, Apple brought a 'special feature' for its users in India as a part of iOS v10.2. The update brings the India-specific 'SOS' distress call button to iPhones.

Triggering the SOS will directly dial the national emergency number 112. The number will also be saved in the handset's contact list automatically. The emergency number will be activated in India by January next year.

Another addition in iOS 10.2 is the inclusion of over 100 new emojis (new faces, food, animals and professionals). These are based on the latest Unicode 9.0 standard. Certain enhancements in the Photos, Messages, Mails, and other apps have also been added.
