NEW DELHI: Honor USA has confirmed that it will be launching a new 'epic' smartphone in the first week of January 2017. The handset will be introduced in a pre-CES 2017 event on January 3, at Las Vegas, Nevada. The primary CES conference is scheduled to begin from January 5.

Although there are no specifications mentioned by the company, the teaser image posted at least confirms the inclusion of a dual rear camera setup. It should be noted that there's already a dual rear camera smartphone in the Honor series, Honor 8.

Since the official teaser comes from Honor USA, it is quite likely that the device will go on sale first in the US and then other regions.

It is also worth mentioning that since Honor has confirmed it will be rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Honor 8, we can expect the Honor 'epic' to come with the same OS version as well.

According to several media reports, Honor 8 smartphone will get Android 7.0 Nougat as part of EMUI 5.0. The OS update will be hitting the smartphones in February 2017.

The new OS version is said to be already under testing for Honor 8. EMUI 5.0 made its debut with the Huawei Mate 9.

EMUI 5.0 comes with a new colour scheme and a redesigned menu bar. Besides updated quick toggles in the notification shade, the new UI brings a QR code scanner for active sharing, recent apps screen and an app drawer.

The UI is also said to come with improved power management system and new power saving modes.

Honor launched its Honor Magic smartphone in China earlier this month. One of the handset's key selling points is its dual curved Amoled display. It also has a WiseScreen intelligent sensor, which detects the user's hands and eyes, and activates the screen. When the phone is placed down or kep in the pocket, the screen turns off in a second.
